Newark Man Charged In Tuesday’s Broad Daylight Shooting

Wilmington Police have arrested a Newark man in connection with a shooting incident that took place yesterday.

On February 7 at approximately 1:25 p.m., police were dispatched to the 800 block of West 10th Street in reference to a shooting incident that had taken place. Police located a 27-year-old male gunshot victim, who was transported to the hospital in stable condition.

The case was assigned to Detective Joran Merced of the Criminal Investigations Division. Through the course of his investigation, he identified 25-year-old Jadeson Smith of Newark as a suspect officials said Wednesday. Smith was taken into custody without incident a short time later by members of the Street Crimes Unit.

Smith has been charged with the following offenses:

Assault (First Degree)

Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony

Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited

Criminal Mischief Over $1,000

Discharging a Firearm on a City Street

Possession of Marijuana

He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $51,200 cash-only bail.
