The Wilmington Police have arrested a man in connection to a 2021 fatal motor vehicle collision.
Officials said on December 23, 2021, at approximately 6:55 p.m., Wilmington Police responded to the 1400 block of West 2nd Street in reference to a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle.
Upon arrival, officers located a victim, 36-year-old Santiago Castro, who later succumbed to his injuries. Prior to the arrival of police, the striking vehicle fled the scene of the collision police said. The case was assigned to the Wilmington Police Traffic Division – Collision Reconstruction Unit.
The investigation continued, and the efforts of the Collision Reconstruction Unit led to the identification of 25-year-old Jonathan Arroyo-Herrera as a suspect and a warrant was obtained for his arrest officials said Monday.
On February 22, at approximately 12:15 p.m., members of the Street Crimes Unit were able to take Arroyo-Herrera into custody without incident.
He has been charged with manslaughter in addition to traffic violations:
He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $68,202 cash-only bail.
