Police: Suspect In Newark Armed Carjacking Taken Into Custody

Newark Police have charged Shane Randall, 28 of Philadelphia, with offenses related to and armed carjacking that occurred on November 24, 2022 police said. 

Officials said Randall was identified as a suspect after forensic evidence linked him to the incident.  The vehicle has been recovered added police.

On February 21, 2023, Randall turned himself in to Newark Police and was charged with the following offenses:

  • Robbery First Degree
  • Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
  • Aggravated Menacing
  • Conspiracy Second Degree

Randall appeared before Justice of the Peace Court #2 by video and was ordered to be held in default of $104,000 cash bail.  Randall was turned over to the custody of the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in Wilmington.

The Newark Police Department is currently investigating an armed carjacking that reportedly occurred on Thursday, November 24, 2022, at approximately 12:32 PM. The victim reported that they had left a store in The Grove shopping center and were returning to their vehicle when they were approached by the suspect.

Officials said the suspect displayed a handgun to the victim and demanded the keys to the victim’s car. The victim complied with the suspect’s demands. The suspect then drove away from the scene, in the victim’s car, towards Marrows Road. The victim was not injured during the carjacking.

The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 6’00” to 6’02” with a thin build and armed with a handgun. The suspect was possibly wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and a mask.

The victim’s car has not been located. The car taken during this incident is a white Toyota Rav-4 with New Jersey license plate E93PCT. If you see the car, do not approach it, immediately call 9-1-1.
