Troopers Confirm Two Shot On I-95 In Claymont Monday

Delaware State Police are investigating a shooting incident that occurred on Interstate 95 in the Claymont area early this morning.

Officials on February 13, 2023, at approximately 2:50 a.m., troopers responded to the Wilmington Hospital for two victims, a 33-year-old male and a 30-year-old male both from Wilmington who sustained gunshot wounds. Investigators said the two victims, and a third rear-seat occupant were traveling in a Nissan Altima in the left lane of southbound Interstate 95 in the area of Darley Road. While traveling an unknown vehicle in the right lane began shooting at the passenger side of their vehicle. The 33-year-old operator was struck once in the face and the 30-year-old front-seat passenger was shot once in the upper torso. The operator pulled to the right shoulder of I-95 and an occupant contacted the police. Subsequently, the operator was able to drive to the Wilmington Emergency Room where both victims are being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.  The Altima with damage from multiple bullet holes was located in front of the emergency room.

Troopers responded to the location of the shooting and located five shell casings on I-95 southbound.

Sources in law enforcement tell FSU that two people drove themselves to the hospital after they were struck by gunfire in the area of Darley Road in Claymont.

Police have not released details surrounding the incident to the nature of the victim’s injuries.
