Reports: Trooper Struck, Multiple Vehicle Accident Closes I-495 Sunday Morning

Just before 4:00 Sunday morning, rescue crews responded to I-495 SB in the area of Perkins Run Creek for reports of an accident with multiple vehicles involved.

While en route crews learned that a Trooper was on scene reporting that one person may have been ejected and was missing.

Upon arrival, crews reported that two patients were being evaluated by EMS. Crews also reported that one driver had fled the scene on foot and another driver was still unaccounted for.

Delaware State Police Aviation’s Trooper 4 responded to the crash to search for the missing drivers, however, no one was found according to reports from the scene.

One patient was transported by ambulance with what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.

Just after crews placed the accident under control reports began coming in that a vehicle had driven through the crash scene and struck a Trooper’s vehicle. Crews were then dispatched to the scene for a pedestrian struck incident. Just after the dispatch, Trooper 4 was recalled and Command canceled the paramedics.

I-495 SB was closed while police investigated the scene and cleared the accident.

This story will be updated when additional details are released.
