Accident That Seriously Injured Motorcyclist Under Investigation

On Sunday night the Dover Police Department responded to the scene of a crash that left a motorcyclist from Newark, New Jersey, seriously injured.

Police say a 68-year-old Dover man, driving a 2020 Dodge Durango, turned into the path of a 45-year-old motorcyclist, who was riding a 2004 Suzuki motorcycle. The two vehicles collided and the biker was thrown from the motorcycle.

Master Corporal Ryan Schmid, spokesman for Dover Police Department, said the department is still evaluating the facts of this case and at this time no charges have been filed… The victim was first transported to a nearby hospital but was later airlifted to a hospital in New Castle County.

Motorcycle accidents, unfortunately, happen all too often in the state of Delaware, with statistics from the Delaware Office of Highway Safety showing that 128 people were killed in motorcycle accidents between 2013 and 2017. That’s more than double the number of people who were killed in car accidents during the same period.
