Laurel Murder Suspect Arrested In Maryland

The Delaware State Police have identified 27-year-old Jhalir Henry of Delmar, Delaware as one of the suspects who was involved in the homicide of 18-year-old Corey Mumford in Laurel last week according to police. Henry was taken into custody today in Maryland.

Officials said on April 14, 2023, at approximately 2:40 p.m., the Laurel Police Department responded to a shooting near the 100 block of Sunset Drive in Wexford Village Apartments. When officers arrived, they located Corey Mumford suffering from multiple gunshot wounds behind one of the apartment buildings. The officers began CPR and attempted life-saving measures until EMS arrived on scene. Corey was then taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead. Due to the nature of the investigation, the Laurel Police Department requested that the Delaware State Police Homicide Unit assume the investigation.

Detectives developed Jhalir Henry as one of the suspects involved in Corey’s homicide officials said. On April 21, 2023, members of the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office and the Salisbury Police Department executed a search warrant at a residence on the 30000 block of Johnson Road in Salisbury. Henry was located and arrested without incident. Henry is now incarcerated in Maryland and will be extradited to Delaware, where he will be charged with Murder First Degree, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, and Conspiracy First Degree.
