Police Clear Woman Wanted For Shots Fired Incident, Second Woman Charged With Hindering Prosecution

On April 22, 2023, just after 12:30 in the morning, Newark Police were in the 100-block of East Main Street when an officer heard gunshots being fired.  Officers responded to the area of 174 East Main Street and observed a group of subjects.  Witnesses reported that the person who fired the gun fled the area in a vehicle police said.  Officers stopped the vehicle minutes later.  The vehicle was operated by Khadijah Brown, 30, of Wilmington.  Brown was the sole occupant of the vehicle.  No firearm was located in the vehicle and Brown was later released.

Upon further investigation at the scene, shell casings were located on the ground.  In an earlier police press release officials said a review of surveillance video and witness interviews determined that Brown and another female engaged in an argument with other persons in the area of 174 East Main Street.

On April 24, 2023, Khadijah Brown was contacted by Delaware State Police in Wilmington during a traffic stop.  Newark Police subsequently took custody of Brown without incident and transported her to Newark Police headquarters.

Brown was charged with Hindering Prosecution and multiple traffic offenses related to this incident.  She is awaiting presentment before a Justice of the Peace Court at the time of this release.

Upon further investigation and review of evidence related to this incident, a second female, who was originally also sought for this incident, was determined not to be involved in the incident police said.  She is no longer wanted by Newark Police.
