Delaware State Police have identified Corey Mumford, 18, of Laurel, as the victim of the homicide in Laurel on April 14, 2023.

Yesterday afternoon, Friday April 14, in Laurel, officers responded to a fatal shooting at Wexford Village Apartments in the 100 block of Sunset Drive in Laurel.
Upon arriving at the apartment complex, officers found the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds behind one of the buildings and began administering life-saving measures. The victim was brought to a nearby hospital, where they were pronounced deceased. Out of respect for their family and privacy, the victim’s identity will not be disclosed until notification has been made to the family.
Due to the nature of the crime, Laurel Police Department requested the Delaware State Police Homicide Unit to assume the investigation.

This shooting is the latest example of the ongoing violent crime in Delaware and is the second shooting in Laurel this week.
On Wednesday, April 12th, 2023 at approximately 12:45 PM officers were dispatched to the 300 building of the Holly Brook Apartment Complex for reports of a shooting.
Upon their arrival, officers learned that several gunshots were fired ultimately striking a single black male adult victim. This victim was transported by bystanders from the scene to a nearby hospital for life-threatening injuries where he was stabilized before being airlifted to a trauma center facility.
Officials said that several search warrants were executed within the Holly Brook complex as part of the investigation with the assistance of the Delaware State Police. Citing the ongoing investigation they did not release additional details
Police have not said if they think the two shootings are related. The two apartment complexes are just over a mile away from each other, as the crow flies.
