On April 7, 2023, an accident occurred on Atlanta Road (Route 30) and Federalsburg Road (Route 18).
Delaware State Police are now conducting an investigation into a crash that resulted in one fatality and another person sustaining critical injuries.
The crash involved a 2020 Freightliner tractor-trailer, which was traveling northbound on Atlanta Road at approximately 10:37 p.m. A 2008 Chrysler Town and Country minivan was headed westbound on Federalsburg Road and moving towards the intersection of Atlanta Road. Upon attempting to cross the intersection, the Freightliner failed to stop at a posted stop sign and traveled directly into the path of the minivan according to police.
The Chrysler was unable to avoid the collision and struck the right side of the Freightliner’s flatbed trailer and subsequently partially went underneath it. The Freightliner continued traveling northbound for a brief period of time, dragging the Chrysler before finally coming to a stop.

The front passenger of the Chrysler, a 67-year-old Federalsburg, Maryland woman, was taken to a hospital with critical injuries. The operator of the Freightliner, a 26-year-old Richmond, Virginia man was not injured.
Delaware State Police are still investigating the crash and no charges have been filed at this time according to police. As a result of the investigation, the roadway was closed for approximately five hours.
