Troopers Make Arrest In Mall Shooting

Delaware State Police have arrested a 17-year-old juvenile male from Newark with criminal charges in connection with a shooting incident that occurred at the Christiana Mall in early April.

On April 8, 2023, at approximately 6:43 p.m., the Delaware State Police responded to the Christiana Mall for a reported shooting at the food court entrance. Investigation revealed that three male suspects confronted an 18-year-old male victim as he was exiting the food court. The three suspects began to physically assault the victim, at which point the victim’s two friends entered the physical altercation and began fighting with the suspects. During the fight, one suspect removed a handgun from his waistband and began firing multiple rounds police said. The first victim and his friend, a 16-year-old male were both struck by three rounds in the torso and the lower extremities. The suspects then fled the scene.

There was one 18-year-old victim who was standing on the sidewalk outside of the entrance when he was struck by one round in the lower extremity.  He was transported to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Through investigative means, troopers have identified one of the three suspects. On April 18, 2023, the 17-year-old suspect turned himself in at Troop 2 where he was charged with Facilitate a Riot (Felony), Conspiracy Second Degree (Felony), and Offensive Touching. The juvenile was arraigned in the New Castle County Family Court and committed to a Division of Youth Rehabilitative Services facility on a $15,000 secured bail.

The remaining two suspects have not been identified at this time. This remains an active and ongoing investigation. The Delaware State Police are continuing to investigate a shooting at the Christiana Mall on Saturday night.

On April 8, 2023, at approximately 6:43 p.m., the Delaware State Police responded to the Christiana Mall for a reported shooting at the food court entrance. Investigation revealed that three male suspects confronted an 18-year-old male victim as he was exiting the food court. The three suspects began to physically assault the victim, at which point the victim’s two friends entered the physical altercation and began fighting with the suspects said police. During the fight, one suspect removed a handgun from his waistband and began firing multiple rounds. The first victim and his friend, a 16-year-old male were both struck by three rounds in the torso and the lower extremities. The suspects then fled the scene.

The two victims struck multiple times by gunfire were transported to area hospitals and are listed in stable condition.

The suspects are described as three black males in their late teen’s wearing all dark clothing. The image and video below displays the three suspects involved in the shooting incident.

Delaware State Police are investigating a shooting at the Christiana Mall that occurred Saturday evening.

Police said at approximately 6:43 p.m., the Delaware State Police were dispatched to the Christiana Mall for a reported shooting that occurred at the entrance to the food court. Officers responded and located three victims with gunshot wounds in the vicinity of the food court. The victims were transported to area hospitals for their injuries. All three of the victims have been listed in stable condition. Five other individuals sustained various injuries not related to gunfire during the incident. These subjects were transported to area hospitals for medical treatment.

Officials said that it has not been confirmed how many suspects were involved at this time. Investigators are actively working to identify the suspects. The incident is determined to be a result of an altercation between several suspects and at least one of the victims police said. This remains an active and ongoing investigation.

FSU has been told that two of the victims were found near Urban Outfitters and the third was found near the Chick Fil A in the food court.

Police with body armor and long guns drawn went door to door rescuing hundreds of workers and customers that were hiding in stores and restaurants.
