New Castle County residents waited for half the day for the reopening of Glasgow Park, a popular destination in the area.
Police closed the park Tuesday night due to an ongoing police investigation. According to Corporal Michael McNasby, spokesman for the department, police received information from Maryland State Police about a bomb threat at the park.
During a separate investigation in Maryland, troopers with the Maryland State Police received information that a suspect placed an unknown explosive device somewhere in the park. As a result, patrol units arrived at the park and determined it was empty, setting up a perimeter to ensure the safety of the public.
At day break, specialized police units from several agencies with drones, K-9s, horses, and ATVs began arriving at the park for a grid search of the 250-acre property.
Additional K9 teams from the Delaware State Police, Wilmington Police Department, University of Delaware Police Department, and the Delaware River and Bay Authority have responded to assist. The Delaware State Police Aviation Unit, New Castle County Emergency Medical Services, New Castle County Emergency Communications, Christiana Fire Company, Delaware City Fire Company, and the Newark Fire Department are also assisting with the investigation and scene security.
New Castle County Detectives are also collaborating with the Maryland State Police to fully investigate this serious incident.
At around 1:00 Wednesday afternoon police said no explosive device was located. The entire park was cleared and is now open to the public.
