County Police Charge Three In “Armed Robbery Spree”

Detectives from the New Castle County Division of Police have charged three juvenile suspects following multiple robberies that occurred in New Castle.

Officials said on Saturday, May 20, 2023, at 1:26 a.m., Patrol Officers were dispatched to Georgetown Village Apartments in New Castle in reference to a robbery.

Officers arrived at the scene and contacted a 40-year-old female victim. The victim stated that she was attacked by multiple male suspects after exiting her vehicle. The suspects reportedly kicked and punched the victim and further attempted to take her purse and keys. The victim reported that the suspects were last seen walking towards Route 273.

Later that morning at 3:16 a.m., Patrol Officers were dispatched to Ashton Condos in New Castle in reference to a carjacking. Officers arrived at the scene and contacted a 50-year-old male victim. The victim stated that he pulled into the complex parking lot at which time he observed multiple males wearing dark clothing with hoods pulled tight around their faces. The victim stated he then drove to the opposite side of the parking lot and exited his car. Upon exiting, two of the suspects he originally spotted pointed a handgun at him and demanded his property according to police. The victim reported the suspects then fled in his vehicle.

At 7:00 p.m. on that same day, Officers from the New Castle County Division of Police Mobile Enforcement Team (MET) located the victim’s motor vehicle in the parking lot of the New Castle Walmart. Officers observed that the vehicle was occupied by three juvenile males. Officers were able to follow the vehicle at which time the suspects pulled into a shopping center near the intersection of Route 273 and Appleby Road. MET Officers then took all three suspects into custody without incident. The suspects were identified as a 17-year-old male from New Castle, a 16-year-old male from Chesapeake City, and a 14-year-old male from New Castle.

Following additional investigative steps and multiple search warrants, Detectives were able to link the suspects to both New Castle incidents police said.

The 17-year-old male from New Castle was charged with two felony counts of robbery in the first degree, two counts of wearing a disguise during the commission of a felony, one felony count of theft of a motor vehicle, and two felony counts of conspiracy in the second degree. He was arraigned by New Castle County Family Court and bail was set at $48,000.00 cash.

The 16-year-old male from Chesapeake City was charged with two felony counts of robbery in the first degree, two counts of wearing a disguise during the commission of a felony, one felony count of theft of a motor vehicle, and two felony counts of conspiracy in the second degree. He was arraigned by New Castle County Family Court and bail was set at $48,000.00 cash.

The 14-year-old male from New Castle was charged with two felony counts of robbery in the first degree, two counts of wearing a disguise during the commission of a felony, one felony count of theft of a motor vehicle, and two felony counts of conspiracy in the second degree. He was arraigned by New Castle County Family Court and bail was set at $48,000.00 cash.
