Patrol Officers from the New Castle County Division of Police have arrested 35-year-old Tyesha Bethea of Newark for multiple felony charges.
Officials said on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at 9:04 a.m., Patrol Officers were dispatched to Kinder Care located on Meadowood Drive in Newark regarding a terroristic threatening incident involving a weapon.
Upon arrival, officers spoke with a victim who reported that she was involved in a road rage incident while driving on Kirkwood Highway. The victim reported that she and the suspect pulled into nearby parking lots following the initial road rage. The victim stated she drove towards the suspect to speak with her further. While the victim was sitting inside her vehicle the suspect was standing outside of her car. The suspect then approached the victim’s vehicle and pointed a black handgun at her. The suspect then struck the victim’s car multiple times by swinging the handgun causing minor damage police said.
Officers then contacted the suspect who was identified as Tyesha Bethea, near the 2000 block of Capitol Trail in Newark. Tyesha also called 911 to report the incident, however, denied threatening the victim with a firearm or striking the vehicle with the weapon. While on the scene, officers searched the vehicle and first located an empty holster. Officers then located a loaded black 9mm handgun hidden underneath a child’s car seat police said. Tyesha was transported to New Castle County Police Headquarters and charged with one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, one felony count of carrying a concealed deadly weapon, one felony count of possession of a weapon in a safe school zone, one felony count of aggravated menacing, one misdemeanor count of terroristic threatening, and one misdemeanor count of criminal mischief.
She was arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to Delores J Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution in lieu of $88,000.00 cash bail.
