Police: Woman Stabbed Man Then Drove Him To The Hospital

Detectives from the New Castle County Division of Police have charged 43-year-old Colette Hayes of Wilmington following a stabbing.

Officials said on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at approximately 12:28 a.m. Patrol Officers were dispatched to Midway Plaza Apartments in reference to a stabbing in progress. Upon arrival, it was determined that the victim and suspect were no longer on the scene. Police say that Colette Hayes contacted 911, stating she stabbed a male acquaintance following a dispute and was transporting him to the hospital.

Officers responded to Christiana Hospital Emergency Room at which time they located Colette Hayes and a 39-year-old male victim who sustained a stab wound to his upper body. The victim remains at the hospital and is currently in critical condition.

Colette Hayes was detained and transported back to NCCPD headquarters. Detectives responded to the hospital and to the original crime scene and assumed the investigation. Following further investigation and multiple search warrants, Colette Hayes was charged with one felony count of assault in the first degree and one felony count of possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony.

She was arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court 2 and held in lieu of $40,000.00 secured bail.

Breaking Report

Just before 12:30 early Wednesday morning police and rescue crews responded to the apartments in the 4800 block of Old Capitol Trail for reports of a possible stabbing.

When officials arrived on scene they learned that that patient was transported to the trauma center in a personal vehicle.

Sources familiar with the incident tell FSU that a male was stabbed in the neck.
