State Police Investigating Fatal Accident In Frederica

Yesterday evening in Frederica, there was a single-car accident that resulted in the death of a man.

The Delaware State Police are conducting an investigation into the accident that occurred on May 3, 2023, at around 6:40 p.m.

Police said the car involved was a green 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis, which was speeding south on Jackson Street, south of Front Street within the town limits of Frederica.

When the vehicle reached the southern end of Jackson Street, it hit a row of trees that blocked the street, but the car did not slow down and continued south. The Mercury eventually crashed into a set of trees and came to a stop.

The driver, a 40-year-old Frederica man, was not wearing a seat belt and suffered critical injuries according to police. He was declared dead at the scene. His identity is currently being withheld until his family and relatives are notified.

The collision was an isolated incident, and no other vehicles were involved. For about three hours, Jackson Street was closed while the scene was investigated and cleared.
