County Police are investigating an accident that left a young man in critical condition.
At approximately 11:15 p.m., Thursday evening patrol officers from the New Castle County Division of Police received a 911 call regarding a single-car collision with injuries at the intersection of West Commons Boulevard and Corporate Circle.
Upon arrival, the officers were met with the sight of a heavily damaged vehicle and a single occupant who had been ejected from the car, lying approximately 90 feet away. The 20-year-old male operator of the vehicle was treated on scene by paramedics for head and internal injuries and was transported to Christiana Hospital in Stanton on board a Wilmington Manor Fire Company Ambulance in critical condition.
In response to the seriousness of the crash and the extent of the driver’s injuries, detectives from the Traffic Services Unit were called to the scene to investigate the incident. The cause of the collision has yet to be determined, and the investigation remains ongoing. Following the accident, West Commons Boulevard at Corporate Circle was closed to traffic to ensure the safety of responders and to facilitate the investigation. The road closure lasted several hours, with authorities working to collect evidence, reconstruct the scene, and gather witness statements. Eventually, at approximately 3:45 a.m., the road was reopened, allowing traffic to resume its normal flow.
The response to the accident was swift and comprehensive, with multiple agencies and emergency services arriving at the scene to provide immediate assistance. The New Castle County Paramedics, Wilmington Manor Fire Company, Minquadale Fire Company, Minquas Fire Company of Newport, Delaware Air National Guard Fire Department, and Delaware State Police Aviation (Trooper 4) all played a crucial role in the rescue and stabilization of the injured driver.
