On June 20th, 2023, at approximately 4:00 PM, an incident unfolded in North East, Maryland, involving deputies from the Cecil County Sheriff’s Office.
Officials said that deputies were actively searching for an individual wanted by the Sheriff’s Office when they encountered the subject near a residential property on 400 block West Claiborne Road.
The encounter between the deputy and the wanted subject escalated into an altercation, leading to the discharge of the deputy’s agency-issued firearm. The shot struck the subject, resulting in non-life-threatening injuries. The deputy immediately provided medical assistance to the wounded individual.
Emergency services were summoned, and the injured subject was transported to Christiana Hospital in Newark, Delaware, for further medical treatment.
In accordance with agency policy, the deputy involved in the incident has been placed on administrative leave pending the investigation by the Cecil County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division.
