On Sunday night emergency services rushed to the 3800 block of Hutchinson Road following reports of a house fire. The incident, which occurred just after 10:30 p.m., prompted a response from multiple fire companies, rescue units, and law enforcement agencies in the area.
Upon arrival at the scene, firefighters were met with visible flames that had engulfed a two-story residential home. All occupants had managed to evacuate the home safely before the blaze spread further. The Mill Creek Fire Company confirmed that no injuries were reported among the residents.
Initial reports from the scene indicated that there may have been cats in the home, however, there are no follow up details regarding the pets.
One person was reportedly transported to the hospital from the scene. It’s not clear if the patient was a resident or a firefighter at this time.
Crews from the Cranston Heights Fire Company, Elsmere Fire Company, Aetna Hose, Hook & Ladder Company, Hockessin Fire Company, Five Points Fire Company, and Minquas Fire Company assisted the Mill Creek Fire Company at the scene.
Firefighters battled the blaze for over an hour, working to contain and extinguish the flames.
While the cause of the fire is yet to be determined, an investigation will be conducted by fire officials to ascertain the cause and origins of the fire. Further details and updates will be provided as officials release them.
In addition to the fire companies, the New Castle County Paramedics and the New Castle County Police Department were also present at the scene to provide assistance and ensure the safety of all involved.
