Heavy flooding wreaked havoc in New Castle County on Monday, washing out a crucial road and causing significant damage. The Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) has issued an advisory urging motorists to exercise caution and expect delays in the affected area.
The road in question, Walther Road, suffered extensive damage due to the forceful flooding, rendering it impassable for the time being. DelDOT promptly closed the affected section, stretching from Darling Drive to Pierce Run, as the safety of motorists became a primary concern.
The announcement made by DelDOT on Monday morning read, “WALTHER RD FROM DARLING DR TO PIERCE RUN IS CLOSED DUE TO ROADWAY DAMAGE UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.” This closure is likely to remain in effect until repairs are completed and the road is deemed safe for public use.
As of 3:30 Wednesday afternoon, DelDOT has not posted an advisory regarding repairs or plans to reopen the road. Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes.
