In an incident that occurred on Saturday evening, rescue crews from the Laurel Fire Department, Sussex County Medics, and Delaware State Police Aviation’s Trooper 2 were dispatched to the scene of a rollover crash on Shiloh Church Road. The incident, which took place at approximately 11:49 p.m., involved a single motor vehicle and resulted in the loss of a young life.
According to State Police, a 2009 Chevrolet HHR, operated by a 27-year-old Laurel man, was traveling eastbound on Shiloh Church Road. As the vehicle approached a slight left curve east of Johnson Road, the driver failed to maintain control, causing the vehicle to veer off the south edge of the roadway. The vehicle entered a drainage ditch and rolled over multiple times, resulting in the driver being ejected from the car.
The driver, who was not properly restrained at the time of the accident, was pronounced deceased on the scene police said Sunday. The identity of the victim has not been disclosed pending notification of the next of kin.
Following the crash, Shiloh Church Road in the vicinity of the incident was closed for approximately three hours for the investigation and to allow for the safe removal of the wreckage. Delaware State Police are currently conducting an investigation to determine the exact cause of the collision.
