The Delaware State Police have apprehended 27-year-old Alan Alcantara of Bridgeville, Delaware, in connection with the murder of his roommate, 52-year-old Troy Scofield, also of Bridgeville.
This arrest follows a series of events that unfolded on June 9, 2023, when the Bridgeville Police Department responded to a report of a missing person in the 300 block of Cedar Street.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered evidence of a violent confrontation within the residence, and it became evident that Troy Scofield was unaccounted for, police said. Witnesses reported observing Alan Alcantara fleeing the premises in a blue 2006 Honda Civic shortly before the police were notified.
Taking charge of the investigation, the Delaware State Police Homicide Unit connected Alan Alcantara to Troy Scofield’s disappearance and suspected homicide according to authorities. On June 10, detectives secured an arrest warrant for Alcantara, charging him with Murder First Degree.
A breakthrough in the case occurred on June 11, when detectives located Alcantara’s blue Honda Civic parked on a commercial property in the 20500 block of Dupont Boulevard in Georgetown. During a search of the vehicle, investigators made a grim discovery, Troy Scofield’s lifeless body was found in the trunk.
In the early hours of June 13, officers from the Dover Police Department responded to a report of a suspicious person in the 1000 block of South Little Creek Road. To their surprise, they discovered Alan Alcantara hiding in a shed. The suspect was taken into custody without incident.
Following his arrest, Alcantara was transported to Troop 3 and formally charged with Murder First Degree. He subsequently appeared before Justice of the Peace Court 3 for arraignment, and he is currently being held at the Sussex Correctional Institution on a cash bond of $1,000,000.
