One Found Dead In Overnight House Fire

The Office of the State Fire Marshal in Delaware is currently conducting an investigation into a tragic house fire that occurred last night in Wilmington.

The blaze, which was reported at approximately 11:30 pm, took place in the 100 block of Downs Drive, situated in the Limerick development off Lancaster Pike. Upon arrival at the scene, the Cranston Heights Fire Company discovered smoke coming from the house and immediately initiated firefighting operations. Tragically, one individual was found deceased inside the home according to Assistant State Fire Marshal Michael Chionchio.

Chionchio said deputy fire marshals were actively working on-site early Thursday morning, searching for the origin and cause of the fire. The Delaware Division of Forensic Science has taken custody of the victim. There were no other reported injuries resulting from the incident.

Preliminary assessments indicate that the fire caused an estimated $50,000 worth of damage. As of now, the investigation into this incident remains ongoing,
