A devastating house fire broke out in Newark just before noon Tuesday, resulting in heavy damage to a residence on Renee Lane. Firefighters from the Hockessin Fire Company, supported by mutual aid from several New Castle County and Chester County, Pennsylvania departments, battled the intense blaze.
At approximately 12:00, emergency services received reports of a house fire on Renee Lane. First responders arriving at the scene were met with heavy flames engulfing the garage. Firefighters initiated their attack on the fire, deploying two handlines and simultaneously searching the home for any occupants trapped inside. The primary search yielded negative results, indicating that the home was unoccupied. As firefighters continued their operation, the fire rapidly spread, breaching the roof.
Amid the chaos, several firefighters required medical attention and were assessed by on-scene medical crews. The situation escalated further when a Mayday call was issued. The severity of the situation prompted the declaration of a second alarm, bringing additional firefighting resources to the scene.
The fire caused heavy damage to the home, however, the amount of damage will not be known until the Fire investigators release those details.
Investigators are currently on scene searching for the origin and cause of the fire.
Additional details will be released once the information becomes available.
