Just before 4:00 p.m. on Friday afternoon, a devastating fire broke out in the 1200 block of Porter Road in Bear.
The initial reports of an outside fire quickly escalated as firefighters arrived at the scene. What started as a small blaze soon grew into a raging inferno, posing a threat to nearby vehicles. The situation prompted an extensive response from firefighters from across New Castle County.
The quick-moving fire rapidly destroyed multiple vehicles, intensifying the efforts of the responding crews. Thick black smoke billowed into the sky and could be seen from miles away. With the situation escalating, Command requested additional water tankers and extra fire apparatus to assist in combating the fire.
As the incident unfolded, Porter Road had to be closed in the vicinity of the fire. This necessary precaution allowed emergency personnel to work without obstruction and prioritize the safety of everyone involved. The closure disrupted traffic flow, inconveniencing local residents and commuters, but it was a crucial step in managing the crisis effectively.
Fire investigators have not released details surrounding the fire as of yet, however, photos from the scene show the destruction left in its wake.
As the story unfolds, and more information becomes available, we will continue to provide updates on this incident.
