Delaware State Police have arrested Jacob Capozio, 38, of Lewes, Delaware, for burglarizing Grotto Pizza Saturday morning.
Officials said on June 17, 2023, at approximately 9:36 a.m., troopers responded to Grotto Pizza, 17467 Shady Road in Lewes, for a reported trespassing. When troopers arrived on scene, the business was closed and in the process of being opened for the day. They observed Jacob Capozio sitting on the ground in a fenced area behind the business. The troopers announced their presence in an attempt to awaken Capozio, who appeared to be sleeping.

Capozio woke up after receiving another announcement. At the time, he was wearing a Grotto Pizza polo shirt. An employee identified the polo as a shirt worn by employees and confirmed that it had been removed from their inventory inside the store d to police. An employee also verified that Jacob was not an employee. Officials said video surveillance further revealed that Capozio had entered the store and removed merchandise valued at less than $1500. He was taken into custody without incident and transported to Troop 7, where he was charged with the following crimes:
- Burglary Third Degree (Felony)
- Theft Under $1500
- Criminal Trespass Third Degree
Capozio was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court # 3 and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on a $4200 secured bond.
