Detectives from the New Castle County Division of Police have arrested 34-year-old Walter Lafferty of Wilmington and 31-year-old Samantha Davis of New Castle following an investigation into a nighttime occupied burglary officials said Thursday.
According to police, on Friday, June 16, 2023, Patrol Officers responded to a residence in the Thistleberry Farms community – Newark in reference to a burglary. Victims on scene reported that a suspect entered their home during the overnight hours and removed miscellaneous property.
Detectives from the Property Squad later assumed the investigation. Through investigative measures, Detectives were able to identify the suspect as Walter Lafferty.
On Wednesday, June 21, 2023, Detectives from the Special Investigations Squad (SIS) located Lafferty along with Samantha Davis in a stolen motor vehicle in the Claymont area. SIS Detectives took Davis into custody without incident and then chased after Lafferty who attempted to run from the car. While running, Lafferty attempted to throw a bag. Detectives then took Lafferty into custody without further incident. The bag was recovered and was found to contain a handgun.
Detectives conducted a search of the stolen vehicle and located crack cocaine, crystal methamphetamine, and stolen property. Both suspects were transported to New Castle County Police headquarters officials said.
Walter Lafferty (34) was charged with:
Two felony counts of burglary in the first degree.
One felony count of burglary in the third degree.
Three misdemeanor counts of theft under $1,500.00.
Nine misdemeanor counts of unlawful use of a payment card.
One felony count of possession of a firearm by a person prohibited.
One felony count of carrying a concealed weapon.
One misdemeanor count of resisting arrest.
Two misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled or counterfeit substance.
One felony count of receiving stolen property over $1,500.00.
Walter Lafferty was arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to Howard Young Correctional Institution after failing to post $81,500.00 cash bail.
Samantha Davis (31) of New Castle was charged with:
Two felony counts of receiving stolen property over $1,500.00.
Three misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled or counterfeit substance.
Samantha Davis was arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to Delores J Baylor Correctional Institution after failing to post $3,250.00 secured bail.
