Detectives from the New Castle County Division of Police have charged 47-year-old Terry Patterson of Philadelphia and 25-year-old Chaun Hurst of New Castle with multiple felony charges stemming from a home invasion.
Officials said on Friday, May 26, 2023, at 10:30 p.m., Patrol Officers were dispatched to Foxwood Apartments in reference to a robbery that had just occurred. Upon arrival, Officers contacted two victims.
The victims reported that they just arrived home to their apartment when they were confronted by two black males who were posing as employees for the apartment complex. The suspects then pointed firearms at the victims and forced them into their apartment police said. After obtaining information from the victims, the suspects responded to the New Castle United Check Cashing where one of the victims was employed. Prior to fleeing the scene, the suspects restrained the victims and stole their motor vehicle said police.
From there, the suspects arrived at the United Check Cashing in New Castle where they conducted a burglary.
Detectives from the New Castle County Division of Police later responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. On Saturday, May 27, 2023, the victim’s vehicle was located unoccupied in New Castle. Through investigative measures by the New Castle County Division of Police and Delaware State Police, Detectives were able to identify the suspects as 47-year-old Terry Patterson of Philadelphia and 25-year-old Chaun Hurst of New Castle.
Throughout the investigation, Detectives collaborated with the Delaware State Police, United States Marshals Task Force, Special Investigations Squad, and the Philadelphia Police Department.
On Friday, June 23, 2023, with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Task Force and the Philadelphia Police Department, Terry Patterson was taken into custody in Philadelphia. A loaded handgun was also located and recovered in the home where Patterson was apprehended.
On Wednesday, June 28, 2023, with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Task Force and the New Castle County Special Investigations Squad, Chaun Hurst was taken into custody in Newark without incident. Detectives executed search warrants on his residence and vehicle and located additional firearms and evidence related to the home invasion officials said Thursday.
47-year-old Terry Patterson of Philadelphia was charged with two felony counts of kidnapping in the first degree, one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, one felony count of burglary in the first degree, two felony counts of theft, one felony count of theft of a motor vehicle, one felony count of conspiracy in the second degree, and one misdemeanor count of criminal mischief.
Patterson is currently incarcerated in Pennsylvania pending extradition back to Delaware.
25-year-old Chaun Hurst of New Castle was charged with two felony counts of kidnapping in the first degree, one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, one felony count of burglary in the first degree, two felony counts of theft, one felony count of theft of a motor vehicle, one felony count of conspiracy in the second degree, and one misdemeanor count of criminal mischief.
Hurst was arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court 2 and bail was set at $221,500.00 cash. Hurst was later committed to Howard R Young Correctional Institution.
