Two Killed In Tragic Accident On I-495 Monday

In a devastating turn of events, a fatal accident occurred earlier today on I-495 southbound at the 12th Street interchange. At approximately 4:30 p.m., a pickup truck veered off the highway, resulting in a fatal collision that claimed the lives of two occupants.

The incident prompted authorities to close the interstate as investigations by the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit are underway.

Initial reports from the scene indicate that the pickup truck careened off the road and flipped into the brush. Good Samaritans on scene initiated life-saving life measures after the crash according to the initial reports. Emergency responders arrived at the scene, to find the driver, as well as another individual in the truck deceased.

The identities of the victims have not been disclosed pending notification of their families. Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident. The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit has taken charge of the investigation.

The roadway is expected to reopen before 9:00 Monday evening.
