Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal single motor vehicle collision that occurred in the Millsboro area early Sunday morning.
Officials said on June 11, 2023, at approximately 1:33 a.m., a 2014 Ford Mustang, operated by a 26-year-old Georgetown man was traveling westbound on Harmons Hill Road approaching a slight left curve east of Hollyville Road. The operator failed to maintain control of the vehicle and it exited the south edge of the roadway while rotating counterclockwise. The right rear of the Ford then struck a large metal utility pole. As a result of this impact, the vehicle rotated violently in a clockwise direction and came to rest just south of the utility pole.
The 26-year-old male operator of the Ford was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries. Later on Sunday, the man succumbed to his injuries while in the hospital. Identification of the victim is pending notification to the next of kin.
The male front-seat passenger in the Ford was transported to an area hospital where he was treated and released for minor injuries.
Harmons Hill Road in the area of the collision was closed for approximately 3 hours while the crash was investigated, and the roadway was cleared.
