Patrol Officers from the New Castle County Division of Police have made an arrest in a case involving attempted vehicle thefts in Newark.
Officials said a 14-year-old male has been charged in connection with multiple incidents that occurred in the Glen Eagle Village Apartments on Monday, July 24, 2023.
During the overnight hours, three attempted vehicle thefts were reported in the complex Upon arriving at the scene, Officers discovered that the suspect had smashed the windows of the vehicles and utilized a tool to damage and manipulate their steering columns police said Friday. The attempts to steal the vehicles were unsuccessful, however, the incidents left all three with damage. The vehicles involved were identified as two Hyundais and one Kia.
Following the incidents, Patrol Officers continued their investigation, ultimately identifying the suspect as a 14-year-old male from Newark.
On July 26, 2023, the suspect was apprehended by Patrol Officers from C-squad. During the subsequent interview, the juvenile admitted to attempting to steal all three vehicles according to police.
The teen was charged with multiple offenses, including three felony counts of attempted theft of a motor vehicle, three misdemeanor counts of tampering with a motor vehicle, three misdemeanor counts of criminal mischief, and three misdemeanor counts of breach of release.
The case proceeded to New Castle County Family Court, where the suspect was arraigned. Bail was set at $10,000.00 secured. He was committed to the New Castle County Detention Center, where he will await further legal proceedings.
