Another Victim Carjacked In Newark Tuesday Morning

In the early hours of Tuesday, July 18, 2023, an alarming carjacking incident unfolded at a gas station in Newark, prompting a response from the Delaware State Police.

The incident occurred at the Sunoco located at 520 JFK Memorial Highway, leaving a 37-year-old woman shaken but unharmed.

According to the authorities, at approximately 1:21 a.m., troopers received a 911 call regarding a carjacking that had just taken place. Upon arriving at the scene, they spoke with the victim, who provided an account of the events that transpired.

The victim, whose identity has not been disclosed, informed the troopers that an unfamiliar vehicle, occupied by two men and one woman, pulled up in front of her car while she was refueling at the gas pumps. Suddenly, one of the occupants of the unknown vehicle exited and approached her, brandishing a firearm and demanding that she vacate her vehicle immediately.

The victim complied with the assailant’s demands, relinquishing her car to the carjacker. Following the theft, both vehicles departed the scene, leaving the victim stranded.

Law enforcement officials are investigating this, the latest incident in a rash of carjackings that have plagued the First State in recent weeks.

The Delaware State Police have urged anyone with relevant information about the carjacking or the whereabouts of the stolen vehicle to come forward and assist in the investigation.
