Buildout on a new Tex-Mex restaurant in Dover’s Capital Station shopping center on Division Street and DuPont Hwy is beginning in July. Founded in Toronto in 2005, the quick-service restaurant franchise has grown to become Canada’s largest Tex-Mex brand with over 250 locations across the country. Known as BarBurrito in the north, it will rebrand as BurritoBar as it spreads into the US market.
“It’s very exciting because this location will be among the first in the US,” said local franchisee Manish Patel. “Right now, there are only two in Michigan, with a third opening in the next few weeks.”
Patel noted that the brand is geared towards an aggressive expansion in the US in the coming years. The brand has already taken the first step by entering into a master franchise agreement to add 90 new locations in Florida.
Patel, a co-owner of four Jake’s Wayback Burger locations in Delaware, is confident that BurritoBar will be a perfect match for the bustling location in Dover. With its prime traffic-heavy spot, Patel sees great potential for the success of BurritoBar.
“There are other places in Dover you can get tacos and burritos, but I think BurritoBar’s menu is very unique,” he said. “They have their own sauces and salsa and they do a panini press style of burrito that helps keep everything together – it’s pressed tight enough for you to eat on the go! They also have seafood options like their bang bang shrimp.”
Assuming there are no significant setbacks, Patel believes the location will be ready for its grand opening in October.
Charles Rodrigues of R&R Commercial Realty, who brokered the deal, noted the recent addition is one step closer to completely filling the large shopping center.
“Moving BurritoBar in leaves only a few thousand square feet of retail space left at Capital Station,” he said. “The center has a very strong mix of businesses now and attracts consistent traffic. It’s really come a long way from its days as the shuttered Playtex factory.”
