Inmate Charged In 2020 Cold Case Murder

In a breakthrough, the Wilmington Police Cold Case Unit has made an arrest in connection with a cold case murder that occurred in 2020.

Officials said the incident took place on December 21, 2020, when officers responded to a shooting in the 200 block of North DuPont Street. They found 46-year-old Michael Parker, the victim, suffering from gunshot multiple wounds. Despite being rushed to the hospital, Parker succumbed to his injuries.

The case was originally handed over to Detective Mackenzie Kirlin of the Criminal Investigations Division for further investigation.

Under the efforts of Kirlin and the Cold Case Unit, which included Cold Case Investigator Steven Rizzo and Detective Devon Jones, a suspect was identified. After a lengthy investigation, 33-year-old Evette Wynn was revealed as the prime suspect in the murder officials said Monday.

On July 24, the case was presented to the New Castle County Grand Jury, resulting in an indictment for Wynn on multiple charges. These charges include First Degree Murder, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, and two counts of Possession of a Firearm or Ammunition by a Person Prohibited. Wynn is currently in custody at the Delores J. Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution on an unrelated matter and has been held on $150,000 cash-only bail.

Court records show that Wynn has been in custody since September 2021.
