Man Found Shot In Vehicle After Newark Crash

Just before 11:15 Sunday night Newark Police responded to Whitechapel Drive and Aylesboro Road for a report of a vehicle crash.  At the same time, additional calls to 911 reported shots fired in the area.

Arriving officers found a vehicle occupied by a 55-year-old male driver.  The driver suffered a gunshot wound to the back.  He was treated at the scene by Aetna Hose Hook & Ladder Company and New Castle County EMS paramedics.  He was transported to an area hospital in critical condition.

Based upon evidence at the scene, it is believed that the victim was shot while in the street in the unit block of Dunsmore Road and then drove away from the scene, where he subsequently crashed.
