Detectives from the New Castle County Division of Police are currently investigating a carjacking that occurred at Banning Park.
Police said on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at 1:10 p.m., Patrol Officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Middleboro Road – Banning Park in reference to a carjacking.
During the investigation, Officers contacted a 27-year-old male victim. The victim reported he was eating lunch in his vehicle near the large pond in the rear of the park.
The victim stated that he was approached by a male suspect who was armed with a firearm. The suspect ordered the victim to move over at which time the suspect got into the driver’s seat according to police.
The suspect then drove away with the victim still in the car and drove toward the Christiana Fashion Center where he ordered the victim to exit the vehicle. The victim, who was uninjured during the incident then ran to a nearby business to call the police.
Police said the victim’s car is a 2007 gray Mazda 6 with Delaware registration 748925.
