On Tuesday evening, the Delaware State Police arrested 56-year-old Christopher Waller of Blades, Delaware, following a pursuit.
The incident unfolded at approximately 8:05 p.m. when a trooper on patrol spotted Waller behind the wheel of a black Chevrolet Silverado traveling westbound on Concord Road near Sussex Highway.
The trooper, who was familiar with Waller, quickly confirmed through a routine computer check that the driver’s license of the suspect had been suspended police said Thursday. Taking immediate action, the trooper signaled for Waller to stop his vehicle. However, Waller ignored the trooper’s commands and continued driving until he reached his residence on the 100 block of East 2nd Street in Seaford.
Once Waller brought the truck to a stop in his yard, he finally complied with the trooper’s instructions and was subsequently taken into custody without further resistance. During the encounter, the trooper noticed Waller’s erratic behavior and detected signs of impairment, leading to suspicions of intoxication. A subsequent computer check revealed that Waller had previously been convicted of DUI on three separate occasions according to police.
Following the arrest, Waller was transported to Troop 5 for processing. He now faces several serious charges, including felony fourth offense DUI, felony disregarding a police officer’s signal, resisting arrest, driving while suspended, and failure to have insurance in possession.
On July 12, 2023, Waller appeared before Justice of the Peace Court 3 for arraignment. The court set his bail at $9,020 in cash, and he was subsequently remanded to Sussex Correctional Institution to await further legal proceedings.
