Just before 9:30 p.m. on Monday evening, residents of the Harmony Woods Development in Newark were met with a sight as flames engulfed a home on Diminish Drive.
The Christiana Fire Company, aided by several neighboring fire companies, responded to the emergency call. While en route crews learned that the fire was caused by a lightning strike during a severe storm that had swept through the region.
As firefighters arrived at the scene, they were met with flames showing from the second floor of the residence. The intensity of the flames necessitated an immediate response, and crews wasted no time in initiating their attack on the fire. Following their arrival, the firefighters conducted a thorough search of the home to ensure the safety of any potential occupants. Their search found that no individuals were found inside the residence. No injuries were reported.
The firefighters gained control of the fire after approximately 30 minutes after arrival. The flames were subdued, and the situation was placed under control. Crews remained on the scene for overhaul and cleaning up hotspots.
