Officials Update State Park ATV Accident That Hospitalized Two

Just before 11:00 on Wednesday morning, emergency responders received a 911 call regarding a traffic collision involving an ATV with reported entrapment at Brandywine Creek State Park in Wilmington.

A multi-agency response was dispatched to the scene, including Delaware State Police Aviation’s Trooper 4, New Castle County EMS, Talleyville Fire Company, Delaware Department of Natural Resources, and Five Points Fire Company along with crews from Chester County, Pennsylvania’s Longwood Fire Company.

Upon arrival at the scene, responders encountered a single ATV vehicle involved in the incident. One patient remained trapped inside the vehicle while another had been ejected. Fire Department personnel worked for approximately 20 minutes, extricating the trapped driver from the vehicle.

As a result of the collision, an 18-year-old male sustained injuries to his lower extremities and required immediate medical attention. He was transported in serious condition via Delaware State Police Aviation’s Trooper 4 to Christiana Hospital in Stanton. Another 18-year-old male, who also suffered injuries to his lower extremities, was transported in stable condition from the scene by paramedics aboard a Talleyville Fire Company ambulance. He too was taken to Christiana Hospital for further medical evaluation and treatment.

Initial reports that the second patient was also trapped have been corrected.
