The Wilmington Police Department arrested five male juveniles in a stolen motor vehicle incident earlier this month.
Officials said at around 5:30 p.m. on August 1, officers responded to a call reporting a stolen motor vehicle in the 1000 block of North Walnut Street. The officers initiated an investigation and soon located the stolen vehicle in the 1400 block of Northeast Boulevard. However, as the officers attempted to stop the vehicle, it sped away, initiating a brief pursuit.
The pursuit eventually came to an end in the unit block of Salisbury Drive, where the stolen vehicle finally came to a stop. All five male juveniles inside the vehicle fled on foot, leading to a foot pursuit by the pursuing officers. The officers managed to apprehend the fleeing juveniles after a short chase.
The juveniles, aged 12, 14, and two 16-year-olds, were taken into custody without incident. The apprehended individuals were then charged with a range of offenses corresponding to their roles in the incident.
The first 16-year-old male juvenile faces several charges, including Receiving Stolen Property Over $1,500, Disregarding a Police Officer Signal, Resisting Arrest, Reckless Driving, and Driving Without a License. Following his arrest, he was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and was released on $4,000 secured bail. This initial charge sheet underscores the seriousness of his involvement in the incident.
The second 16-year-old male juvenile was charged with Resisting Arrest and Possession of Marijuana Under 18 Years Old. He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and subsequently released on $1,000 secured bail.
The 12-year-old male juvenile faced charges of Resisting Arrest and Criminal Mischief Under $1,500. Following his apprehension, he was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and released on $1,000 unsecured bail.
The first 14-year-old male juvenile faced the charge of Resisting Arrest. He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and was released on $500 unsecured bail.
The second 14-year-old male juvenile, like the first, faced the charge of Resisting Arrest. After being arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11, he was also released on $500 unsecured bail.
