The Delaware State Police have arrested 37-year-old Kevin Jasovsky of Bel Air, Maryland, following a DUI-related crash in Milton authorities said Tuesday.
Officials said the situation escalated from a collision involving a construction barrier and a marked Delaware River & Bay Authority (DRBA) Police Department vehicle to a physical altercation with responding law enforcement officers.
Around 9:27 p.m., on Monday a trooper on patrol discovered a black Nissan Pathfinder that had collided with a construction barrier alongside the left lane of Coastal Highway, just south of Broadkill Road. The Nissan also struck a fully marked DRBA Police Department Chevrolet Tahoe. The police officer who had been driving the Tahoe approached the Nissan’s driver, later identified as Kevin Jasovsky. The trooper also intervened to engage with Jasovsky, but the encounter quickly turned confrontational police said.
Jasovsky, rather than cooperating, resisted exiting the Pathfinder and attempted to flee the scene by driving away according to police. Despite his resistance, both the trooper and the DRBA officer managed to extract Jasovsky from the vehicle and bring him down to the ground. During the struggle with Jasovsky, both the police officer and the trooper were injured.
After a brief altercation, the law enforcement officers were able to take Jasovsky into custody. During the incident, the trooper detected a strong odor of alcohol emanating from Jasovsky, along with behaviors indicative of impairment officials said. Consequently, both Jasovsky and the trooper were transported to a local medical facility for evaluation and necessary treatment, with both being released later the same evening.
During Jasovsky’s medical assessment, a series of charges were formally filed against him. He now faces charges for Assault in the Second Degree of a Law Enforcement Officer (Felony), Offensive Touching of a Law Enforcement Officer, Resisting Arrest, Driving Under the Influence (DUI), and various traffic offenses.
Jasovsky was arraigned before Justice of the Peace Court 3. Following this proceeding, he was held on a $12,325 cash bond and remanded to Sussex Correctional Institution.
