Police Identify Teen Killed In Tragic Accident Sunday

The Delaware State Police are currently conducting an investigation into a collision that occurred Sunday morning in Georgetown, resulting in the loss of one woman’s life and multiple individuals sustaining injuries.

This incident occurred on August 27, 2023, at approximately 11:38 a.m. It unfolded on Dupont Boulevard, south of W. Robbins Road. Police said a gray 2007 Mazda 3 was driving southbound at the same time a silver 2019 Nissan Murano was driving northbound along Dupont Boulevard.

For reasons that have yet to be determined, the Mazda suddenly veered sharply to the left, crossing over the center grass median into the northbound lanes. This abrupt maneuver led to a collision with the oncoming Nissan according to police.

The front seat passenger in the Mazda, 18-year-oldĀ Gricelda Ramirez-Chilel, sustained severe injuries as a consequence of this collision and succumbed to her injuries at an area hospital.

The Mazda’s driver, a 39-year-old Ellendale woman sustained non-life-threatening injuries according to police. She was transported to an area hospital for medical care.

A 4-year-old boy seated in the left backseat of the Mazda also suffered serious injuries in the crash. Initially taken to an area hospital for treatment, he was subsequently airlifted to another medical facility for further attention and care.

Similarly, the occupants of the Nissan, including the 58-year-old male driver from Bangor, Pennsylvania, and the 60-year-old female front seat passenger, also from Bangor, Pennsylvania, sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
