Police: Laurel Man Tied To Bank Robbery, Truck Stop Robbery On Same Day

A Laurel man has been arrested for two robberies that occurred on Tuesday.

Officials said these incidents involved a robbery at the Oasis Travel Plaza truck stop and a robbery at the M&T Bank, both located on Sussex Highway.

The initial incident occurred at approximately 1:58 a.m. when Delaware State Police responded to a 911 call regarding a robbery at the Oasis Travel Plaza.

In the initial incident, the suspect, later identified as Toshawn Furlow, 40, of Laurel, entered the store, put his hand in his pocket, and threatened to shoot the cashier if she did not open the cash register drawer according to police. The victim complied and the suspect stole money and cigarettes before fleeing the scene. The victim was not hurt and was able to show troopers surveillance video of the robbery, officials said Wednesday.

Subsequently, at approximately 9:00 a.m. on the same day, the Seaford Police Department responded to a separate robbery at the M&T Bank, also located on Sussex Highway. Officials said they tied Furlow to bank robbery.

Troopers and officers continued searching for Furlow in the surrounding area. At approximately 3:03 p.m., officers from the Laurel Police Department, EMS personnel, and assisting troopers responded to the 1000 building of Hollybrook Farms Apartments in Laurel for a medical call. Officers arrived and found Furlow in the apartment, where he was taken into custody without incident.

Following his arrest, Toshawn Furlow was transported to the Seaford Police Department, where he faced a series of charges related to both the Oasis Travel Plaza and M&T Bank robberies. These charges included robbery (felony), terroristic threatening (felony), and theft. He was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on a cash bond amounting to $62,100.
