On Tuesday afternoon, just before 2:50 PM, rescue crews were dispatched for reports of a shooting. The 911 call originated from a victim who was in a parked car in front of the Cab Calloway School of the Arts.
According to initial reports from the scene, a woman was shot while inside her vehicle in the area of the nearby Dunkin Donuts. The reports also indicated that the victim appears to have been shot by an assailant who was driving by.
Witnesses at the scene tell FSU that the school’s preseason practice was letting out when the woman pulled up in front of the school, where bystanders help her and her dog that was also in the car.
The incident led to an immediate response from rescue teams but also triggered a series of actions that affected the surrounding areas. Both the Dunkin Donuts area and the Cab Calloway areas were crime scenes, leading to delays and disruptions in the vicinity. Law enforcement arrived at the scene, closing off the road near the Dunkin Donuts to conduct their investigation.
The Wilmington Police Department said the shooting took place around 2:46 p.m. in the 2900 block of Lancaster Avenue. The victim, identified as a 47-year-old female, was transported to the hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.
