A motor vehicle accident in Middletown on Sunday morning turned fatal.
Officials said at approximately 1:53 a.m., officers were dispatched to the Village of Bayberry North for a single-vehicle collision that resulted in the loss of a young life. The incident occurred when a white 2015 Jeep Wrangler rolled over and pinned a 20-year-old male victim underneath.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers found a Jeep Wrangler lying on its side with the young victim trapped beneath it. Rescue crews from Middletown and Port Penn, along with New Castle County Paramedics were dispatched to the scene to assist at the scene. Once freed the injured young man was rushed to Christiana Hospital for medical attention, but tragically, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after.
The investigation into the accident by the New Castle County Police Traffic Services Unit found that a 21-year-old individual was operating the Jeep Wrangler within the community parkland when the accident occurred police said Sunday. The exact sequence of events leading to the rollover is still under investigation added police.
