On Saturday morning, around 2:30 AM, Wilmington was the scene of a reported shooting incident.
The Wilmington Police Department responded to the situation, receiving reports of gunfire in the vicinity of W 30th Street. As officers arrived at the scene, they discovered a crime scene but no immediate sign of a victim.
Simultaneously, the Wilmington Fire Department along with medics were alerted to respond to an emergency just a few blocks away. It is believed that the two scenes are part of the same incident.
Upon arrival at the scene, first responders found a 14-year-old male victim who had sustained a gunshot wound to his leg. The patient was then transported to a nearby medical facility for treatment.
Wilmington Police issued the following statement:
Wilmington Police are investigating a shooting incident that occurred at approximately 2:22 a.m., in the unit block of West 30th Street.
Police located an 14-year-old male gunshot victim, who was transported to the hospital in stable condition.
This incident remains under investigation, and further details will be released when possible.
