On Sunday morning, September 24, 2023, at approximately 9:30, Sussex Community Corrections Center (SCCC) Work Release offender Kyle Batson was observed walking away from a Department of Correction (DOC) supervised Road Crew working along Route 13 near Laurel.
Additional officers from the DOC, supported by Delaware State Police and Laurel Police Department, immediately responded and apprehended Batson nearby after a brief search.
He was arraigned at JP Court 3, charged with Escape After Conviction, and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution in lieu of $10,000 cash bail.
Batson is currently incarcerated for robbery according to authorities.
