Motorcycle Accident Claims Life Of 78-Year-Old Man

On September 10, 2023, Roxana, Delaware, was witness to a traffic incident that resulted in the loss of a 78-year-old man’s life.

Officials said around 2:44 p.m. on that Sunday afternoon, a black 2001 Kawasaki Vulcan 1500 motorcycle was traveling westbound on Bayard Road, just east of Zion Church Road. The incident transpired as the motorcycle operator, whose identity remains undisclosed pending family notification, encountered a moderate curve in the road.

For reasons yet to be determined, the operator was unable to negotiate this curve successfully, according to police. Consequently, the motorcycle veered off the north edge of the roadway, onto a wet grassy area adjacent to the pavement. The Kawasaki traveled a short distance through the grass area before losing control and overturning onto its left side

During the incident, the motorcycle re-entered the roadway, resulting in the operator being partially ejected from the vehicle. Emergency services responded to the scene and transported the man to a local hospital.

The 78-year-old operator succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

Following the incident, Bayard Road was closed for approximately three hours while law enforcement conducted their investigation.
