Rehoboth Beach Man Succumbs To Injuries Suffered In Accident

Delaware State Police are investigating a crash that occurred on September 2, 2023, resulting in the passing of 81-year-old Richard Bland, a resident of Rehoboth Beach.

Officials said the incident took place at approximately 5:42 p.m. on Coastal Highway, just north of Camelot Drive. At that time, a silver 2010 Honda Cruiser was traveling in the left northbound lane of Coastal Highway. In the same lane, a black 2018 Jeep Cherokee was stopped in traffic directly in front of the Honda. For reasons yet unknown, the Honda failed to stop and collided with the rear of the Jeep Cherokee according to police.

Richard Bland, the operator of the Honda, was partially ejected from the vehicle and came to rest in the middle of the left lane. He was transported to the hospital and later succumbed to his injuries on September 19, 2023.

The operator of the black 2018 Jeep Cherokee, a 55-year-old man from Randolph, New Jersey, did not suffer any injuries in the incident.
