Cell Phone Leads To Felony Charges For Virginia Man

Delaware State Police arrested 25-year-old Trevon Majette of Chesapeake, Virginia, on October 23, 2023, for weapon and drug offenses following a traffic stop in New Castle.

Officials said the arrest occurred around 6:00 p.m. when a state trooper patrolling Route 1 near Wrangle Hill Road observed a white Ford Edge being driven by Majette. The trooper initiated a traffic stop after witnessing Majette using a cell phone while holding it in his right hand.

Upon approaching the vehicle and making contact with Mr. Majette, the trooper detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the car according to police. Subsequently, a Delaware State Police Narcotics Canine was deployed to scan the Ford for narcotics. The canine positively alerted to the presence of narcotics within the vehicle said police.

Officials said a search of the Ford revealed a concealed handgun loaded with an extended magazine, several rounds of ammunition, approximately 3.49 grams of marijuana, and $13,500 in suspected drug dealing proceeds.

Trevon Majette was taken into custody without incident and transported to Troop 2. He was charged with several crimes, including carrying a concealed deadly weapon (felony), possession of a large capacity magazine (felony), possession of a deadly weapon by a person prohibited who possesses a controlled substance (felony), possession of drug paraphernalia, and driving a motor vehicle on any highway while using an electronic communication device.

Following his arrest, Majette was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2 and subsequently released on a $3,003 unsecured bond.
